On the
IIM...
Interim management is an increasingly important discipline and resourcing
tool, both in the UK and internationally. Whatever the size of client organisations,
the industry sectors in which they operate, or business issues faced, IIM Members
represent the highest standards of quality, best practice and experience, and
are uniquely placed to deliver the right solutions.

CPD Policies & Procedures In an ever changing work environment professionals in every field need to:
- keep their professional qualifications up to date
- keep up to date with the evolving work environment
- develop their personal skills and competencies
- support fellow workers to become more professional
- contribute to the development of their profession
By choosing to work on an interim basis, Interim Managers add a further area that must be kept up to date and developed. That is:- the skills and competencies specific to working as an Interim.
Why does the Institute of Interim Management have a CPD policy? The Institute of Interim Management is the professional body for quality standards of accreditation, professional development and best practice for practitioners of Interim Management. Members of the Institute need to be seen as the elite of our profession and thus CPD is a serious responsibility and commitment for all members.
To support members’ activities in this area the Institute has developed a CPD scheme. This identifies those competencies specific to Interim Management that members need to concentrate on. In return members are asked to report on their CPD activity on an annual basis. This provides additional benefits to members: - Your CPD record can be used to help demonstrate your professional competence when marketing yourself either directly to clients or to service providers.
- The reports provide the evidence required to allow the Institute to reinforce the quality of our membership in all publicity.
- Details of the activities undertaken by our members helps the Institute to ensure that the events we run from time to time are meaningful and relevant to our members.
Outline of the scheme To provide guidance in respect of what is expected from members we have developed a two tier CPD scheme: - Level A for associate members who are looking to upgrade their membership. This involves associate members earning at least 30 CPD points in a year.
- Level B for members and associates wishing to maintain their current grade. This involves members and associates earning at least 15 CPD points in a year.
The competencies the Institute of Interim Management has identified as appropriate for inclusion in a member’s CPD programme are detailed here. Under the heading of each competency there are a number of subjects. Development activity in any one subject is worth 5 points. Our members are senior professionals who operate across a wide range of functional expertise and are therefore best placed to identify the competencies and the underlying subjects that are the most appropriate for their personal development. Having selected the appropriate subjects you then need to decide the best way to develop them. This could be by a combination of: - Reading relevant reports, newsletters, web sites and books
- Attending conferences, training courses, workshops, seminars and exhibitions
- Attending IIM events
- Writing for InterIM Insight or other publications
- Speaking at IIM events or at other functions
- Passing a relevant examination, for example PRINCE2
Operating the Scheme Within three months of joining/renewing membership the Institute would ask you to review your current state of Professional Development as an Interim Manager and decide which competencies need renewing/refreshing.
To assist you with your planning a suggested template is available. The plan is available as an aid for use only if you find it helpful and does not need to be submitted to the Institute. However, we would recommend that you use some form of formal approach to personal development planning as a prompt to follow through even when busy with so much else. Within one month of your membership renewal date the Institute requires each member to submit a report to the Director Professional Development using the report template (you will need to be logged into the member’s area to complete the report) detailing the activities undertaken. The form can be completed and submitted online. |
