The Benefits Of Joining The Institute of Interim Management

Substantial growth in the Interim market over the last two decades gave rise to an overwhelming demand for a formal body to set:

  • Recognised and accredited quality standards for the professional Interim
  • A framework for ethical standards of behaviour, performance, and continued professional development.

The Institute of Interim Management was set up in April 2001 in response to these demands and to represent the interests of professional Interim practitioners. The IIM is the UK’s only independent, professional institute run by and for Interim executives, which sets standards of best practice both for practitioners and clients of Interim services. Membership of the Institute is a valuable way of differentiating yourself as a dedicated professional and increasing your standing in an increasingly competitive market.

The Voice of the Professional Independent Practitioner

The Institute is the collective voice of the professional Interim practitioner. It helps raise awareness of the benefits of Interim Management as a recognised professional discipline within private and public sector organisations. By raising the profile of Interim Management, it encourages greater use of Interims in all sectors and management disciplines.

Whitehall signThe IIM is committed to ensuring that Interim management continues to thrive. To this end, it actively lobbies at government level both in the UK and the EU to protect the interests of its members and those of all other stakeholders in the Interim market. All too often, legislation and regulations are introduced to address particular issues unconnected with Interim management, and Interim managers become ‘collateral damage’ as a result of the unintended consequences of ‘catch-all’ clauses and broadly drawn definitions.

Professional Standards and Expertise

Business woman and phoneBy applying rigorous entry standards, the IIM ensures all its members are recognised as having an approved level of technical qualification, managerial experience and competence – a recognised level of professional excellence.

Membership of the IIM is the ‘kite mark’ of quality and best practice. Viewed collectively, Institute members also represent a significant resource of some of the most accomplished and able experts in their chosen fields of business. Membership endorses your competence as an Interim manager, and both reassures and attracts both Providers and clients.

The application of rigorous entry standards on their own is not enough – it is essential that Interims remain at the cutting edge of their respective skill sets, and all IIM members undertake a self-targeted and managed CPD scheme that supports professional development and enhances their Interim credentials. To support members in keeping up to date, the Institute arranges events and seminars that address key topical issues of a broad commercial, management discipline and sector interest.

Man and woman chattingA Forum for Communication

The IIM fulfils an important role in providing a communications forum for its members, creating extensive networking opportunities for them to meet and exchange information and ideas through nationally held events and seminars. It publishes a regular newsletter, InterIM Insight, which has come to be recognised as one of the industry’s leading magazines.

Practical Support and Advice

The Institute offers a range of highly competitive and exclusive benefits to help members in running their businesses. Members of the IIM can take advantage of discounts and preferential rates on products and services, including professional indemnity insurance, legal / accountancy / tax services, remote data back-up and storage, and training courses. The saving on PII premium alone can more than exceed the cost of the annual subscription to the Institute.
